American Hikers about to be tried in Iran?
Three Americans are about to be prosecuted in Iran for espionage. The three Americans accidentally strayed into Iran while hiking in Northern Iraq in July. Secretary of State Clinton has called the proposed trial preposterous and without any merit.
Here are my thoughts:
1. The three Americans are really stupid for being there in the first place. What were they doing in northern Iraq ?Don’t we have a war going on in Northern Iraq??? If you want to hike, go to Yellowstone.
2. America deals with hikers who stray everyday. It’s called the Mexican border. Some of those hikers – hike all over the US! While here, the hikers receive free health care – jobs – and if they stay long enough we will let them vote! If the “strayed hiker” is from Canada – we’ll buy them a beer and point them home. No harm, no foul.
3. How about an ultimatum from the President to the Iranian government. “Give us back the three dumb hikers and we will call it even.” I don’t understand why the ultimatum is not used more in politics. Maybe the President doesn’t want to make the Iranians mad.
4. A trial for the hikers? Come on. That will be fair – not! Hey, Iran see point 2 above and respond accordingly. You will save yourself a lot of grief in the long run.

LOL. You sound like my husband. I think a lot more people agree with you than would care to admit. Yellowstone would’ve been fine by me, as with any of my friends that had any bit of common sense. Still, I have supported the families of these hikers in their efforts to have their loved ones returned safely. I’m hoping for a “Give us back the three dumb hikers and we will call it even.” I’ll just be glad when this is all over.
