Nigeria: Bilateral ties in jeopardy?

ABUJA, Jan 6 (Reuters) – Bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States could be at risk if Washington keeps its requirement for tighter security for Nigerian travellers, a federal minister said on Wednesday.  Here’s the article link.

Here are the questions:

1. Do we (America) care?

2. What impact could the sanctions have on our country? (11% percent of our oil comes from there).

3. What is strategic about Nigeria? Oil?

The Nigerian position is that since President Obama said our security systems were at fault they (Nigeria) shouldn’t be on the list. What??? In other words when we figure out how to stop the terrorists we can implement tighter security measures against Nigeria?  Hmmm.

The most ridiculous statement of all ?  ”Since the accused terrorist doesn’t clearly have ties to fundamentalist groups operating in Nigeria, we shouldn’t be on the list.” In other words “he is not one of our terrorists”…Both of the statements are quotes from members of the Nigerian Senate.
